Happy Release Day!!

Just a couple books out today to have on your radar. . .

Temptation & Twilight (The Brethren Guardians, #3)An Introduction to Pleasure (Mistress Matchmaker, #1)

I'm not 100 percent certain on Temptation & Twilight as on Amazon it says paperback is out today but the kindle isn't available until July 1st?  That seems a bit odd...but I recommend this title.  I am anxious to read An Introduction to Pleasure as it will be my first taste of Jess Michaels (I have read her under her Jenna Petersen name and enjoyed her) and it is the start of a new series so yay!  Lots of great books out next week!!

Temptation & Twilight by Charlotte Featherstone

The third book in the Brethren Guardian series had a lot to live up to in my mind and for the most part, it delivers in spades!  The only thing that kept this from possibly being an even better story was how it starts.  At the end of the previous book, Pride & Passion, it ends on such a cliffhanger with our couple, Iain Sinclair, Marquis of Alynwick and laird to the clan Sinclair and Lady Elizabeth York.  Yet this book starts off back a couple weeks which threw me off for a bit.  Granted it is seen through Lizzie and Iain's eyes but still, it took about 80 percent of the book to finally get to the cliffhanger.  While I appreciate seeing the story through a new way and getting more in depth with our couple, I personally wanted the story to start where the previous one ended.

Elizabeth York was one of my favorite heroines I have read recently.   I enjoyed seeing the world through her blindness and thought it was done in a way that was realistic and believable.  She is strong and independent and has no qualms speaking her mind as she is on the shelf but is flattered when a handsome earl starts to pay her attention and genuinely seems interested in her for her.  However, her heart may not fully be in the relationship as Iain makes his presence known in her life again after the hurtful way they broke things off years ago.  Iain took a bit of warming up too as he is a major womanizer and actually is seducing another woman in order to gain information for his secret society, the Brethren Guardians.  Thankfully, when he realizes the extent of his feelings for Beth that he thought were buried, he is faithful to Beth.  Together, they have a lot to overcome from their past and, again, it takes quite a bit of time until the truth comes out.  When Iain finally breaks down and tells Beth his (selfish) reason for leaving her, its very heartbreaking...as is Beth's response.

Overall, this is another heartbreaking, haunting love story from Charlotte Featherstone.  She seems to have quick a knack for weaving a sensual romance that will leave your heart pounding one moment and tearing up the next.  The end of this book...wow.  Just wow.  The twists and turns were just wonderful and give a very satisfying conclusion to the mystery surrounding the Brethren Guardians.  So even though this book overlaps so much with the previous, but from a different perspective (and done to show the relationship regrow between our couple) it is a definite must read for fans of sensual love stories.  4 stars

The Brethren Guardian series
Best to be read in order, but I would recommend taking a break between books two and three to fully appreciate book three.
Seduction & Scandal (The Brethren Guardians, #1)Pride & Passion (The Brethren Guardians, #2)
I think this is the end of the series but I hope there is at least one more story. . .

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a a weekly blog hop hosted by Breaking the Spine where we all mention one upcoming book release we are waiting for.
This week my pick is the third in Charlotte Featherstone's The Breathren Guardians series and there has been plenty of build up in the first two books!  I am so anxious to read this one and delve into this couples past and see their happiness finally arrive.  Look for Temptation & Twilight June 19th!  Here is the goodreads.com summary:

Iain Sinclair, Marquis of Alynwick, is certain there is a special hell for him. An unrepentant rake, he holds nothing sacred – except for beautiful Elizabeth York. For years, Alynwick has tried to forget the woman he loved so well, and treated so badly. A woman who could hold nothing in her heart for him except hatred.

All of society believes Elizabeth, blind daughter of a duke, to be a proper young lady. But no one knows of her wanton affair with Alynwick. When Lizzy learns of her ancestor’s ancient diary – filled with exotic tales – she longs to uncover the identity of the unnamed lover within and hesitantly allows Alynwick, who claims to have knowledge of the “veiled lady,” to help her solve the mystery.

Eager to be Lizzy’s eyes, Alynwick brings the seductive text to life, and each night it takes greater effort for her to forget his betrayal. With each whispered word, her resolve gives way, without her knowing that a centuries-old secret will lead them to a present-day danger.

I really enjoy books with a scarred hero or heroine and I already know that Elizabeth is strong and independent despite her blindness so I am looking forward to her making Alynwick fall to his knees :)

Overall, I think its nice to seem them all spread out a bit.  Its much easier to convince myself to buy one book a week instead of three or four on one day :)  Any in particular that you are looking forward to?  I have had the pleasure of already reading Pride and Passion, A Midsummer Night's Sin, and Brazen but I have my eye on Desired as I have had a few friends recommend it highly.  Also looking forward to the latest in Sabrina Jeffries fun series about brothers and sisters who must all marry within a year to claim their inheritance.  A Scottish Love got a good review from RT Magazine so I hope to try Karen Ranney with this one.
Hang on to those wallets friends because December is looking to be a huge debt maker with lots and lots of great releases coming out!  Wish for gift cards from good old Saint Nick!

Pride & Passion by Charlotte Featherstone

Lucy Ashton has basically brought herself up after her mildly selfish parents only paid her some attention when it was beneficial to them.  Now with her mother gone and having been all but ignored by her father, she is loathe to accept his decision that she marry Adrian, the stuffy Duke of Sussex.  Lucy has been brought up to know her duty but she just can not bear it to be to Sussex.  After basically telling her he would curb her impulsive, bold nature she dislikes him even more.  But the final straw comes when Sussex hands Lucy a handkerchief, a handkerchief that came from the man Lucy loves and is part of her shameful secret, a man that killed another in front of Sussex and is an enemy of the Brethren Guardians.  Lucy refuses to believe that Thomas would kill anyone and be an enemy to Sussex and his two friends, who are the Brethren Guardians and trusted with keeping an evil from surfacing.

Adrian is at a bit of a crossroads.  He knows and believes what he saw but convincing Lucy of that is proving to be difficult and dangerous.  Plus his past comes back to haunt and devastate him as well.  Adrian has quite a secret that he is uncertain that he wants anyone, especially Lucy, to find out.  But when circumstances force Lucy and Adrian to spend time together, feelings explode and secrets slowly tumble out.

Overall, this is another beautifully written book by the obviously very talented Charlotte Featherstone!.  She has quite a way of writing a beautiful, haunting story that will grab you from the start and keep you enthralled until the end.  Adrian is portrayed as a stuffy Duke but he is a very passionate, even a bit sensitive, man that loves with his whole heart and will stop at nothing to guard what he loves the most.  Lucy took a bit of warming up too for me.  She comes off a bit childish and spoiled because of her childhood but once the walls around her are broken down, she becomes a fascinating woman who holds on to her sharp, smart tongue while giving with her whole heart.  The secondary characters are excellent as well.  We get to see a bit more of Lord and Lady Black (from Seduction & Scandal) but the ones that almost stole this book was Adrians blind sister, Elizabeth and the third member of the Brethren Guardian, the rakish Marquis of Alynwick.  Fair warning, this book ends with a cliffhanger that will leave you clamoring for their story, Temptation & Twilight, right now!  The only thing that sort of bothered me about this book was the ending.  I know it is to lead you up to the next book but it seemed a little much for this book, but I still enjoyed it.  If you are looking for a mysterious, sexy hero who wants what he wants and won't bend until her gets it paired with a feisty but scared heroine with some heart-pounding action, this one will fill that request!  4 stars

Seduction & Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone

Wowza, what a good book. The writing was just excellent and beautiful. Sigh. Isabella Fairmont has had a scandalous upbringing due to her mothers many liaisons and it has made Isabella realize she needs a stable marriage, even if it is passionless. She has been writing a story about a handsome man with silver blue eyes named Death and that is where she pours her passion out. When she attends a ball one night with her cousin, Lady Lucy with whom she is living with now as her mother has passed away, she catches the eye of the smoldering Lord Black and is quite startled as to his resemblance to Death from her book. But there is no looking away as they dance together and so her long buried passion grows and grows.

Lord Black is one of the Brethren Guardians, along with his two friends, who are in charge of keeping a chalice, scroll and pendant from the public so the evil they posses together does not come to light. When the chalice and pendant go missing, the men start a hunt for them to keep them from the wrong hands. This sounds a bit over dramatic and I was a bit hesitant as to how much this dark magic was going to factor into the story but I was very pleased with how it plays out. Yes, there is a bit of a creepy, odd scene with Lucy but really besides that, there is really no supernatural elements present which I was happy about. The mystery is left hanging a bit and will be continued into the next story, Pride and Passion and I am eagerly waiting for it so I can follow up.

Throughout the story, little tidbits of the past of Isabella and Lord Black are revealed. We learn that there is an unfortunate incident from Isabellas past that takes quite some time to be revealed and I wished it had been delivered a bit bit sooner. Also, we learn that Lord Black already knows of this incident and in fact, has some sort of part in it. Again, it takes awhile to be revealed and I personally would have liked to have known a bit sooner in the story. But those are really my only quips about the storyline. I can not believe I have not read Charlotte Featherstone before! She is an incredible storyteller weaving a sinfully, hauntingly romantic story that I loved! I am guessing there are going to be three stories in this series and I hope she can spin it off into more because I loved all the characters, primary and secondary and can't wait to get my hands on more! 4 1/2 stars
