Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a a weekly blog hop hosted by Breaking the Spine where we all mention one upcoming book release we are waiting for.

This week my pick is the final book in Sabrina Jeffries The Hellions of Halstead Hall series, A Lady Never Surrenders. I just picked up To Wed a Wild Lord and am happy to see the that A Lady will be out Jan 24th.  I love when the wait between books is short, especially when it concludes a fun series and has a couple that we have seen sparks flying in previous books :)  Here is the goodreads.com summary:

When the youngest Sharpe sister hatches a plan to gain marriage offers, the straight-laced Bow Street Runner Jackson Pinter knows he'll do whatever it takes to ruin her scheme...

Lady Celia Sharpe hopes that if she can garner offers of marriage from several eligible gentlemen and show her grandmother she is capable of gaining a husband, she can convince Gran to rescind the marriage ultimatum for her. And if that plan doesn’t work, at least she’ll have a husband lined up. But Bow Street Runner Jackson Pinter seems determined to ruin her plans by disapproving of every suitor she asks him to investigate. It’s only when she and Jackson work together to solve her parents’ murders, plunging them both into danger, that she realizes why—because the only man he wants her to marry is himself!

Any in particular catch your eye?  I'm most looking forward to When a Duke Says I Do and Forever and a Day. Surrender is an updated version that Pamela Clare has edited and added in some extra chapters that she was forced to remove and it sounds promising as does An Unexpected Gentleman. I have yet to read Alissa Johnson but she has many glowing reviews, especially for her previous release.  Grab a couple of these and share them as gifts for your friends.  They are sure to be some winners :)

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a a weekly blog hop hosted by Breaking the Spine where we all mention one upcoming book release we are waiting for.

This week my pick is Forever Mine by Delilah Marvelle.  I really enjoy Ms Marvelles stories for their unique heros and heroines and storylines.  Here is the goodreads.com summary:

London, 1802
Lady Augustine Jane Ascott longs for a man who will do more than offer his hand in marriage. She wants a husband she can trust, someone who will shield her from the darkness of the world. Her heart was broken when her little brother was kidnapped years earlier, and she still carries the pain of his loss.

When the handsome Duke of Wentworth makes his feelings for her known, Augustine's past demons warn her away. Besides, every woman in London knows he's devoted to the memory of his late wife. But is it possible he cares for her after all—and that their love can bring them the peace they both crave?

And do you want to the best part??  Thie e-novella is going to be FREE.  Yes, free!!  Look for it on December 1st.  (It is a prequel to her January release, Forever and a Day.)

New Cover!

I was voting on a list on goodreads.com about the books we are most anticipating and I saw this:

LOVE!!  She hasn't officially released this on her website and I can not wait until she does as she usually shows the step back as well and I love her hot step backs :)  This is totally one of my most anticipated reads for the coming year and I love the shade of pink that was used.  What about you?  Does it grab your attention?  And grrr...is it July yet?!?

Her Reluctant Groom by Rose Gordon

When Emma Green is tossed out of her sisters home one evening for reasons that are beyond her control, she is left with nothing but the clothes on her back and her reticule and the hurtful, snide remark from her cold hearted sister to go her supposed protector, Marcus Sinclair, Earl of Sinclair.  Emma knows that this knowledge is false but her sister sees no reason to believe her so Emma must go to her friend Caroline, who is Marcus' cousin.  Emma and Caroline, along with Marcus' sister Olivia, grew up together and Emma has loved Marcus since she was a young girl.  But when Marcus became engaged to her sister, she put her feeling aside and put on a brave face.  A terrible accident occurs and it leaves Marcus with many disfigurements and it causes her sister to cry off the wedding.  However, circumstances make Emma believe that Marcus truly loved her sister and is a bit heartbroken by the whole ordeal so she just keeps all her feeling inside and doesn't see Marcus for a few years.  But now, with her current situation looking so bleak, Caroline devises a slightly far fetched plan to send Emma to Marcus' home and Emma gradually starts to realize that maybe those feelings do not need to stay buried, perhaps they are actually returned.

Marcus Sinclair has turned into a bit of a recluse since his rash decision led to his accident but with the beautiful Emma now in his household to tutor his friends young daughters, he finds it hard to resist her.  When Emma gets a deep gash he goes into overprotective mode and makes her stay in his room so he can tend her as he is unable to go up and down the stairs due to his injuries.  Emma naturally balks at this but finally relents and discovers quite a startling little book called Lady Bird's Ladybird Memoir and it gives Emma quite a few spicy ideas!  As Emma and Marcus spend more and more time together, the sparks keep flying as do the heated flirtations.  But Marcus is keeping something from Emma that may ruin their chance at happiness and when he confesses to her and forces her to leave and return to London to find a proper husband, Emma is sure he will come to his senses.  However, the days just keep on passing with no sign of Marcus and Emma reluctantly arrives at the altar with another man and a broken heart.  Naturally, Marcus arrives, barely, in time but how it finally concludes is up to you to discover!

This was my first Rose Gordon book and I had heard good things about her writing from a few of my goodreads friends and I have to say I really enjoyed Her Reluctant Groom.  I thought Emma was bold but shy at the same time but she stood her ground when it mattered the most.  Now Marcus I did want to smack upside the head a few times for all the added grief he caused Emma when it was obvious to everyone how much she loved him, and him her, and how she was willing to overlook the past to move on with the future.  Together these two were a delightful couple with loads of sexual tension and sexy innuendos all while trying to remain proper.  I enjoyed all the fun they shared during their fishing excursions!  I thought the secondary characters added a good balance and I look forward to going back and reading Her Sudden Groom to read Carolines story and the next book, Her Secondhand Groom, features Marcus' best friend Drake who was a delight with his three daughters.  And it was interesting how both Marcus and Emma have uncaring, selfish sisters as it added a bit more depth to their relationship.  Overall, I thought this was a good story and the writing was well done, if a bit modern in some places, and I look forward to reading Rose Gordon's backlist and her future books.  I would recommended this book for fans of sexy bedside manners and fun ideas born from naughty books and fans of redemption and knowing that you are good enough and deserve true love.  4 stars

I received this ebook as a gift from the author for an honest review.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a a weekly blog hop hosted by Breaking the Spine where we all mention one upcoming book release we are waiting for.

This week my pick is book two in Christina Brookes Ministry of Marriage series, Mad about the Earl. I really enjoyed the first book, Heiress in Love, and the whole concept of the Ministry of Marriage and I am looking forward to that being, hopefully, explained more in the newest book.  And again, it has a very eye catching cover.  Look for this on January 3rd~

Goodreads.com summary:

Designed to arrange matches of rank and affluence, the powerful Ministry of Marriage has no interest in love. But when does the heart ever play by the rules?

Lady Rosamund Westruther has no objection to the match arranged for her by the Ministry—until she meets her intended. Gruff, stubborn Griffin, Earl of Tregarth, is hardly the charming nobleman the classic beauty has dreamed of for so long. While a proper lady can’t cry off, she can demand a proper courtship …

Griffin is aware of his duty to wed—and more convinced than ever that the lovely Rosamund has no place with a man like him. Built for fields and stables rather than drawing rooms, Griffin doubts he can win her in the polite manner society requires. But with every passing day, the attraction between them flares higher and hotter. Maybe there is more to love than meets the eye…

Quick Peek

Squee! I just finished The Duke Is Mine by the fabulous Eloisa James and it was a delight!  It had me laughing, sighing, crying and made my heart beat a bit faster.  It starts out quite fun and quirky then heads to the shaky ground (for some) in the middle and the question of cheating or no cheating and then it rounds out so sweet and wonderful at the end.  This is sure to become another beloved tale from Eloisa James but I am also sure it will stir a bit of controversy as well in regards to the hero and heroine and the heroines current engagement.  Oh!  And yes, there is a pile of mattresses and a mystery object between them and it totally works for the story!! Look for a full review at the start of December!

New Covers!

I found a few new covers that have posted to various sites!

First up, Miranda Neville released her new cover for her upcoming March 2012 release, Confessions From an Arranged Marriage on the fun site The Ballroom Blog . It fits in beautifully with the other covers in this series!

I also came across two new covers for Sophia Nash upcoming new series set to release back to back in February and March.  Both are very eye catching with their bold, single color scheme.

Also noticed was for Cecilia Grants second book, A Gentleman Undone set for May 29th.  Ms Grant is an author that I am so excited to read!  She has been getting great buzz for her debut book, A Lady Awakened which is out Dec 27th and this new cover fits in perfectly with that one.

If the Slipper Fits has caught my attention as it is the start of Olivia Drakes Cinderella Sisterhood series and I love a Cinderella story!  The cover seems to reflect the Cinderella story or theme as well.  Look for it May 2012.

Wedded in Scandal looks to be the start of a new series from Jade Lee coming in March.  I don't see much info on this yet :)

The second novel in Tessa Dares Spinsters Cove series is releasing the end of March and this looks to be the cover but I am sure the official unveiling will be on The Ballroom Blog soon :)  (Sort of reminds me of Anne Mallorys In Total Surrender)

And finally, this isn't really a new cover as an updated cover with an updated title. Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel is the debut novel from a fellow Wisconsinite Samantha Grace and I am really excited to read this one and so happy to have received it from Netgalley.  Look for the book out in February!  I should read it in January and have a review as well then :)

Well, hopefully a few of these caught your eye and attention!  I have to say, all the art departments at the publishing houses seem to go above and beyond for great covers lately!  But since these are all books out next year, these covers can change at any time :)

Brazen by Margo Maguire

Lady Christina Fairhaven has known she was adopted as a young girl her whole life and her love for her parents and younger brothers runs deep.  So when she is blackmailed into gathering two thousand pounds for information about her supposedly dead brother, she does not hesitate to gather all the jewels from her late husband.  They were not jewels meant for her, but for his lover whose bed he died in and she has no qualms about selling all of them.  But just as she is about to leave, she meets the battle-scarred Captain Gavin Briggs and lets just say there first encounter starts off with a bang!

Captain Gavin Briggs is on a mission to bring home the long lost granddaughter of a duke.  He is relieved to finally find her and anxious to bring Christina back with him to reunite with her grandfather and her sister, both of whom come as quite a shock to Christina.  But as excited as Christina is to meet her twin, she is less than enthused about meeting the man who ignored her for years plus she must complete her mission to gain information about her brother first and Gavin reluctantly agrees to head to London first.  Gavin believes that her brother is truly dead, but as they travel and details are discussed he starts to have some suspensions that all is not as it seems.   Also adding some tension to their travels is the fact that the dukes heir, a scheming, greedy man, wants Christina dead as she will inherit quite a fortune at the dukes death and he does not want to share one shilling.  Oh, but where there is tension, there is passion!  And Gavin and Christina have an immediate attraction that grows and Christina wants to enjoy before she must remarry.

Overall, this was a enjoyable historical romance!  I loved the fact that Christina had short hair and while other people made little snide remarks about it, it was one of the first things that attracted Gavin to Christina and he does not let her forget that.  I also admired Gavin and his fierce protection he has for his sister who was shunned by society and he just wants to collect his reward from the duke and buy her a home in the country to live in.  Gavin believes that no one could love him with his past transgressions from the war but Christina makes him see what a compassionate, decent man he is.  And in return, Gavin proves that Christina is worth all the love that should have been showered upon her by her late husband.  The mystery surrounding Christinas brother added a nice element and when the truth was revealed, I was quite surprised.  My only little problem with this book was the epilogue.  I wished there had been a bit more.  I don't want to say much for spoiling it but maybe there will be a novella or something in the future to just expand on it a bit.  I mean, I understand the epilogue and think it works, I personally just wanted more :)  If you are looking for a book that is a bit unique with a dashing, gruff, caring Captain and women a bit burned by love who is looking to reclaim her heart mixed with a bit of mystery with no big misunderstanding, Margo Maguire as delivered a sexy story!  4 stars

I received this book from the publisher via netgalley.com

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a a weekly blog hop hosted by Breaking the Spine where we all mention one upcoming book release we are waiting for.

This week my choice is one of the many December 27th releases, The Duke Is Mine by Eloisa James.  This is going to be loosely based on the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, as you can probably guess by the cover.  This is the third in her Happily Ever Afters series but each can be read as a stand alone.  I have read the previous two books in this series, A Kiss at Midnight and When Beauty Tamed the Beast, and really enjoyed them for their light, fun quality so I am really looking forward to a new one.  Plus, I love a retelling of a fairy tale and I always look forward to those :)

Goodreads.com summary:
He is a duke in search of a perfect bride. She is a lady—but a long way from perfect.

Tarquin, the powerful Duke of Sconce, knows perfectly well that the decorous and fashionably slender Georgiana Lytton will make him a proper duchess. So why can’t he stop thinking about her twin sister, the curvy, headstrong, and altogether unconventional Olivia? Not only is Olivia betrothed to another man, but their improper, albeit intoxicating, flirtation makes her unsuitability all the more clear.

Determined to make a perfect match, he methodically cuts Olivia from his thoughts, allowing logic and duty to triumph over passion…Until, in his darkest hour, Tarquin begins to question whether perfection has anything to do with love.

To win Olivia's hand he would have to give up all the beliefs he holds most dear, and surrender heart, body and soul…

Unless it’s already too late

This sexy, witty version of The Princess and the Pea turns the classic fairy tale into an enticing, funny, and moving romance

BrazenA Scottish Love

Overall, I think its nice to seem them all spread out a bit.  Its much easier to convince myself to buy one book a week instead of three or four on one day :)  Any in particular that you are looking forward to?  I have had the pleasure of already reading Pride and Passion, A Midsummer Night's Sin, and Brazen but I have my eye on Desired as I have had a few friends recommend it highly.  Also looking forward to the latest in Sabrina Jeffries fun series about brothers and sisters who must all marry within a year to claim their inheritance.  A Scottish Love got a good review from RT Magazine so I hope to try Karen Ranney with this one.
Hang on to those wallets friends because December is looking to be a huge debt maker with lots and lots of great releases coming out!  Wish for gift cards from good old Saint Nick!
